What is the Singapore Flyer
The Singapore Flyer is one of the world's largest observation wheels, standing at a height of 165 meters. Located in the heart of Singapore, it offers breathtaking panoramic views of the cityscape, including iconic landmarks such as Marina Bay, the Singapore River, and even parts of Malaysia and Indonesia on clear days. Each spacious capsule is designed to provide a comfortable and immersive experience, allowing visitors to enjoy a 30-minute ride with stunning vistas. The Singapore Flyer is not just a visual treat but also a unique way to appreciate the architectural marvels and vibrant culture of Singapore from a bird's-eye perspective.
Tickets
Purchasing tickets for the Singapore Flyer is a straightforward process that can be done online or at the ticketing kiosk onsite. For the best experience, it's recommended to buy tickets in advance through the official Singapore Flyer website, where you can often find special promotions and packages. This not only ensures you secure your preferred time slot but also helps you avoid long queues. Additionally, there are various ticket options available, including standard flights, premium flights with added perks, and even private capsules for a more exclusive experience. Whether you're planning a daytime ride to enjoy the cityscape or a night flight to see the illuminated skyline, booking your tickets ahead of time guarantees a smooth and enjoyable visit.

For us, we ended up buying tickets onsite. I attempted to buy tickets online, but my card wouldn’t process for whatever reason. We headed to the Flyer and found the kiosk to buy tickets onsite. We went on a Sunday evening around 8 pm and it wasn’t crowded at all. We didn’t have to wait to use the kiosk and were able to purchase the tickets immediately. I’d imagine there could be a wait to get tickets if you go during a busy time.
Our Experience
We’ve been to many cities with these large scenic wheels, but we’ve never done one. Honestly, the price typically keeps us from pulling the trigger. This time, we decided we’d give it a try. The cost was $96 USD total for our family of 4, 2 adult tickets and 2 child tickets.
We showed our tickets and were immediately able to enter the Time Capsule Museum area. We were on a tight schedule, so we just skipped this part, but if you have time, it looked like a cool place to learn more about the history of Singapore.
After exiting the Time Capsule, you enter the area to queue for the Flyer. Again, there was no wait for us, and we basically walked right on. We were in a capsule with 3 other people, and they were only putting 1-2 parties in the capsules at a time. Technically, the capsules can carry 28 people, so it was nice to go at a less busy time and have the capsule (almost) to ourselves.
The capsules move slowly, and you get on and off while it’s moving. It’s such a slow speed that it is easy to get on and off with plenty of time for unloading and loading again. There are attendants to ensure you get on and off safely. Once inside, the doors are locked and a quick introductory video plays. Some facts and announcements are made throughout the journey.
On the way up, you can see views of the Formula 1 track and the Gardens of the Bay to the side. Once you are at the top, the views are even better! You get spectacular views of the Marina Bay and the city skyline. It really is stunning! And it really is all about the view.
I’m not exactly someone who loves heights, so I was slightly apprehensive about riding. But it moves so slowly and smoothly, that I felt pretty comfortable. You truly don’t even feel like you are moving. The trip takes about 30 minutes, but it felt quick!
Worth it?
As mentioned earlier, the cost for our family was $96 USD. The boys really wanted to ride the Flyer so that’s the main reason we went ahead and rode it. Luckily, we went at a time that was not crowded which further enhanced our experience. We all really enjoyed the views and were glad we rode.
With all of that being said, would I pay $100 to ride this flyer again, not likely. But did I enjoy the views, absolutely, 100%. Would I ride a similar flyer in another city? Maybe. It would depend on the city and the other activities we are doing there.
So, if it's worth it really is up to you. If you are already paying to see the views from another rooftop in the city, I'd imagine you could skip this experience. But if you want a bird's eye view of this stunning city, The Singapore Flyer is a fun way to get them!
