An Honest Review of Our Luxurious Stay at the Taj Mahal Hotel in New Delhi, India

Staying at the Taj Mahal Hotel in New Delhi had been a dream of my husbands since he was a small boy growing up in India. Of course, he never could have imagined actually being able to stay there so last summer when we visited, we decided it was time to make his childhood dream come true!

When it comes to experiencing the epitome of luxury and hospitality, the Taj Mahal Hotel in New Delhi, India stands out as a true gem. We stayed 3 nights at this hotel and would stay again in a heartbeat. As an Amex Platinum cardholder, we were able to get even more benefits during our stay as this hote is a member of the American Express Fine Hotels and Resorts Collection. This iconic hotel offers an unforgettable stay with exceptional service, a uniquely traditional Indian experience, delicious cuisine, and stunning decor!

Exceptional Service

From the moment you step foot into the Taj Mahal Hotel, you are greeted with warmth and genuine hospitality. The staff goes above and beyond to ensure that every guest feels welcomed and pampered throughout their stay. Whether it's a special request or simply a friendly conversation, the hotel staff's attention to detail and personalized service is truly remarkable.

One of the standout features of the Taj Mahal Hotel is their 24/7 concierge service. The knowledgeable concierge team is always ready to assist with any inquiries or arrangements, whether it's booking tickets to a local attraction or recommending the best restaurants in the city. Their dedication to providing a seamless and memorable experience is evident in every interaction.

The service from housekeeping to the pool attendant, to the waiters and waitresses was beyond exceptional. Everyone was eager to assist and genuinely concerned with making our stay as memorable and effortless as possible. I simply cannot say enough positive things about the service!

As a guest booking via the American Express Fine Hotels and Resorts Collection you are awarded unique benefits. First, we got to indulge in ultimate luxury by being upgraded a suite. The suite was elegantly designed, offering a perfect blend of modern amenities and traditional Indian decor. The spacious living areas, plush furnishings, a lavish bathroom with premium toiletries, and a kitchenette with laundry created an ambiance of opulence and tranquility. It was the perfect place for our family of 4 to relax and unwind! The suite also gave us access to the Taj Club Lounge. The lounge provides a serene and sophisticated space for guests to unwind and enjoy complimentary refreshments throughout the day. In the evening, they had a cocktail hour featuring a selection of carefully crafted petit fours and hors d'oeuvres. Again, the attentive staff ensures that guests' needs are met, creating a truly indulgent experience. Amenities

The hotel offers 6 unique dining experiences as well as room service. We tried several throughout our stay and were never disappointed with the quality! Our favorite was Machan for their variety of Indian cuisine and international favorites.

The hotel also has a fitness center and pool. The fitness center has all the standard equipment you would expect and serves the purpose well. The pool is a luxurious escape and as you lounge poolside on one of the day beds, you can easily forget you are in the midst of one of the busiest cities in the world! There is always an attendant on duty who will bring you towels and cold water to make your time poolside even more enjoyable. There is also a hot tub by the pool and we enjoyed soaking in the hot tub and then cooling off in the pool.

They also offer a full-service spa, but we didn't try it during this stay, so I cannot speak to it personally, but I'd fully imagine it to be amazing.

One Exception (Especially for Families)

We truly enjoyed our stay at the Taj Mahal Hotel and overall, the service was exceptional. However, there is one thing I would be remiss to not note and that is that this hotel is very business centered. When we first walked in, it was clear that the greeters were only looking for elegantly dressed guests and they did little to welcome us. This was quickly remedied by another staff member at check in who was very welcoming, but I do think it is important to note the vibe of this hotel. It can be a little intimidating as most everyone will be dressed in suits and ties and there will likely be some business gathering in the conference center onsite. If you are a family with small children who is looking for a more laid-back stay, I could definitely recommend several more relaxed alternatives for your stay.

But from the indulgent comfort of our suite to the kind service at the pool for our kids we easily forgot most of this. Truly the only time we felt uncomfortable, was when we were in the main lobby. Apparently, many business meetings happen in this hotel and thus the vibe is fairly uptight in that area. For this reason, I'm not sure we will stay again. It was a sort of dream come true stay for my husband and I and we absolutely were treated exceptionally well by the staff at the Taj, but the overall vibe may be enough to prevent us booking again. On the other hand, the value for booking via Amex was exceptional and I'll never say never.
