Amazing Place to Eat in Agra

We recently took a day trip to Agra from Delhi. If you're thinking about doing this as well, we'd definitely recommend Gatimaan Express train that leaves in the morning from Delhi at 8am and departs Agra at 5pm. This is sufficient time to explore the Taj Mahal and shopping district of Agra. We recommend booking the Executive Chair car. It is comfortable with AC and is the highest class for the train. But for this post, we will focus on the Salt Cafe in Agra and why it should be your go to stop for lunch or dinner after a visit to the Taj Mahal.

The Salt Cafe is a modern restaurant located in the Tajganj region of Agra. It is on the third floor and you have to take an elevator or the stairs to get to it. If it is your first time in India, this system might seem strange. The ground floor doesn't look like much, but there is a greeter downstairs to direct you to the elevator or steps. The elevator is typical India, but you may wonder if you are actually ever going to get off the elevator, but I promise this is the norm in India and we have been on many of these elevators and are still here to tell the story! Get on the elevator or take the stairs! It will be worth it.

When you get to the third floor, you will find the entrance and if it is a hot day like it was when we went, you will feel immediate relief as you open the doors and feel the blast of cool and refreshing air conditioning! It was SO hot the day we were in Agra that I am 100% sure we would've paid $100 just to sit in the air conditioning! But, truthfully, the best was still yet to come. We were quickly greeted by a host who found us a table and sat us down with menus. Immediately a server brought us over water and we quickly requested chilled water as the standard in India is room temperature water. He quickly retrieved several bottles of cold water for us and we settled in to peruse the menu. Ultimately, we decided to try a variety of dishes. Here is what we ordered:

• Paneer Tikka Pizza

• Veg Shawarma

• Egg Curry

• Murg Makhani

• Lachha Parantha

Everything was delicious, but I would 100% recommend trying the paneer tikka pizza! It was a favorite at our table for sure! The staff were friendly and attentive. The bathrooms clean and western style. The vibe was laid back and fun. We didn't have any drinks, but they have a pretty decent drink menu as well and the boys had a melting chocolate cake for dessert that they thoroughly enjoyed.
