Check out this recent hack with my American Express Platinum Card!
This is just another reason why I'm willing to pay the $695 annual fee for this card!
First, a Amex Offer for 5x Points at Amazon
Currently, some users are getting targeted American Express offers on their card to earn 5x membership reward points at Amazon. Here was the offer my husband's platinum card was targeted with:
"Get 5 additional Membership Rewards® points for each dollar spent on qualifying purchases made using your enrolled eligible Card online at Amazon.com by 8/21/2023. Limit of 3,000 Membership Rewards points. See terms."
Unfortunately my platinum card wasn't targeted with this Amex Offer this time, but at least one of us had it!
Next, a Amazon Coupon Targeted Offer for 50% at Amazon with Amex Points!
Here is the coupon we were offered from Amazon:
Get 50% off eligible products when using Membership Rewards points. Maximum discount $80.
The best thing about this Amazon and Amex partnership is that you don't have to pay for the whole purchase with points! (and you definitely shouldn't pay for the whole purchase with points because you can get much more value for your points with other redemptions! Unless you are swimming in Amex points and just really want to use them to buy something on Amazon) In fact, I only had to use 1 Amex point to still get the $80 discount!
The Math
I bought a $200 Uber Gift Card to use on our trip this summer. I paid with 1 American Express Membership Point to activate the coupon and then paid the remainder of the $119.99 with my husband's Amex Platinum to earn the 5x points. That all boils down to a true savings of $80 and 600 American Express points earned!
